FRP Boats & Kayaks: Buying Guide

Kerala's backwaters, lakes and rivers need boats that can handle water and sun day after day. Every Emerald boat is moulded from Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) with Isophthalic resin and Isophthalic gelcoat for high strength, low weight and a long service life.

Why FRP is the right material for boats

According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), FRP weighs about 1.5–1.7 tonnes per cubic metre compared with about 7.8 tonnes for steel. It does not rot, cannot be eaten by marine borers, and does not corrode, shrink or swell. An FRP hull is moulded as one continuous piece, so there are no seams to caulk and far less maintenance than a wooden boat.

Isophthalic resin, gelcoat and 316 steel

The resin and finish decide how well a boat ages. Isophthalic resin resists water absorption and osmotic blistering better than cheaper orthophthalic resin. The gelcoat is the smooth, coloured outer layer that protects the laminate from water and sunlight. On our pedal boats we use 316-grade stainless steel fittings, which contain molybdenum for better resistance to corrosion than common 304 steel.

Safety and care tips

  • Provide a well-fitting life jacket for every person on board
  • Before starting tourist operations, confirm registration, survey and licensing requirements with the Kerala Maritime Board
  • Never exceed the rated seating capacity of the boat
  • Rinse the hull with fresh water after use and store boats out of direct sun where possible
  • Check seats, fittings, pedal mechanisms and the outboard motor regularly

Warranty and pricing

Pedal boats and row boats carry a 3-year warranty on the FRP body and a 1-year warranty on steel fittings. Seating, colour and fittings can be customised. Listed prices include GST, and transportation is charged separately.

What materials are your boats made from?

All our boats are made from high-grade Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) with Isophthalic resin and Isophthalic gelcoat. This combination gives an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, UV stability and a long working life — ideal for South India's backwaters, lakes, rivers and coastal waters.
The Emerald 5.5 m FRP Speed Boat costs ₹2,75,000 for the 6-seat model, ₹2,80,000 for the 8-seat model and ₹2,90,000 for the 10-seat model, inclusive of GST. Transportation to your location is charged separately.
The Single Seated Kayak is 320 cm long and 82 cm wide and costs ₹26,000. The Double Seated Kayak is 410 cm long and 86 cm wide and costs ₹32,000. Both prices include GST, and transportation is extra.
Our speed boats use an outboard motor (OBM) with a maximum engine capacity of 115 HP. We can accommodate different engine brands and capacities based on your use — recreational, commercial or rescue. Transportation of the boat to your location is charged separately.

Pedal boats cost ₹65,000 (2-seat), ₹85,000 (4–5 seat) and ₹1,01,000 (2-seat swan type). Row boats cost ₹65,000 (2-seat), ₹75,000 (2-seat swan type) and ₹85,000 (4–5 seat). A canopy can be added for ₹8,500. All prices include GST, and transportation is extra.
Yes. We offer customisation of seating capacity (6, 8 or 10 seats for speed boats), colour scheme, interior layout and motor type. Our team finalises the specifications with you before manufacturing begins. Custom orders typically take 3–6 weeks depending on complexity.
Yes. Pedal boats and row boats have a 3-year warranty on the FRP body and a 1-year warranty on steel fittings, and all Emerald boats come with a manufacturer's warranty on FRP workmanship. Engine warranties follow the motor manufacturer's terms. Our after-sales team supports maintenance and repairs across South India.
