Kayaking in South India

Kerala Tourism promotes kayaking and canoeing on the backwaters around Kumarakom, where Vembanad Lake — Kerala's largest — offers calm water for paddlers. October to March is generally the best season. A double kayak is ideal for guided tours, because a beginner can paddle alongside a more experienced partner.

Why FRP?

According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, FRP weighs about 1.5–1.7 tonnes per cubic metre — roughly a fifth of steel — and does not rot, corrode or get attacked by marine borers. Our isophthalic resin and gelcoat finish resists water absorption and blistering better than cheaper orthophthalic resins, keeping the boat looking good for longer.

Safety and care

• Provide a well-fitting life jacket for every person on board
• Never exceed the rated seating capacity
• For tourist operations, confirm registration and survey requirements with the Kerala Maritime Board
• Rinse the boat with fresh water after use and store it out of direct sun where possible
• Inspect seats, fittings and moving parts regularly
