Tank farming in South India

Tank-based systems such as biofloc and RAS (recirculating aquaculture systems) let you raise fish on a small plot with close control over water quality. The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has run community biofloc projects in several Kerala districts — in one example, a 23,500-litre tank was stocked with 1,800 GIFT tilapia.
